The diagram above shows the silkworm’s life cycle stages from the day it hatched and then the process of how silk cloth is made.
In the first stage of silkworm life, silkworm’s eggs are going to hatch in 10 days. After the eggs have hatched, the silkworm larvas will feed on mulberry leaves, after about four to six weeks the larva is going to start forming silk thread. After six days silk thread will have formed a cocoon, silk cloth’s main material. Sixteen days passed, and the larva transformed into a silk moth. The cocoons left by silk moths are then harvested for silk cloth production. The process started with a selection of the cocoon based on its quality. Afterward, the cocoons will be boiled until they turn fragile. Next step, the cocoons unwind to thread and then a few threads are twisted. The twisted thread can either be weaved first and then dyed or the thread can be dyed after twisted.
Overall, the diagram shows the correlation between the life cycle of the silkworm and the production process of silk cloth. The life cycle itself is divided into 4 stages, on the third phase the cocoon is used to produce silk cloth.
