On the whole, it is clear that the process of photosynthesis is linear and consists of several steps, beginning with the absorption of sunlight and ending with the release of oxygen.
To begin with, chlorophyll in the leaves captures sunlight, especially in the green wavelengths, which generates the energy needed to power photosynthesis. Simultaneously, carbon dioxide enters the leaf through the open stomata located in the epidermis and is regulated by the cuticle. At the same time, water is absorbed by the roots and transported upward through the stem to reach the leaves. Subsequently, these three essential components — sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water — combine in the chloroplasts to produce glucose.
Dring photosynthesis, the by-products such as oxygen and water vapour are released into the atmosphere through small openings in the leaves called stomata, known as transpiration. Besides, in order to balance the amount of water, the roots take in water from the soil to replace the water lost throughout transpiration. As mentioned before, there is a portion of sugar produced in the process of photosynthesis converted into starch and stored in the roots. This storage serves as a reserve energy source for the period when the plant is unable to photosynthesise.
