The diagram illustrates a comparison between the present water supply plant used in Australia and the future system.
Overall, both plants have a storage for pure water used by households, factories and shops. The main difference regards how they handle storm water and waste water, because the future system is suppose to treat them in a proper way in order to be recycled.
Furthermore, in prevent system, water is taken from a storage and used by people in the city, but after that all the waste water, including also storm water, passes through a water treatment plant and goes down to a river.
The design of of the future water supply system shows a different strategy: the goal is to re-use waste water and storm water. Indeed, the city may receive pure water not only from the original storage but also from the water treatment plant, which is supposed to remove impurities from waste and storm water to channel the resulting pure water to the city again.
