Overall, this natural process starts with as an egg then turns into three periods, namely, caterpillar, chrysalis, and adult butterfly. Notably, it takes about six weeks to become a butterfly, and it takes place in two different locations.
The process begins when a monarch butterfly lays its eggs on milkweed leaves. This step requires approximately four to seven days to change into a caterpillar from an egg. This caterpillars feed with leaves of the milkweed plant for two or three weeks and reaches up to two centimetres long, which allows it to crawl to distant places, like branches of trees.
Having reached a branch, they wrap themselves in a chrysalis. The chrysalis hangs on the branch for about eight to fifteen days before it converts into a seven-to-ten centimetre butterfly. An adult butterfly lives for two to four weeks, eats flower nectar, and lays eggs on milkweed plants.
