The maps illustrate the variations that took place in Pentland over a 57 year period from 1950 to 2007.
Overall, the area witnessed a remarkable renovation with the erection of new residential areas and facilities in both inland and coastal regions..
It is obvious that there were two huge grasslands along the main road leading to the sea in Pentland in 1950. After 57 years, both were cleared and replaced with several sections. Particularly, in the bottom right corner, two rows of houses and one row of shophouses were built parallel to each other, with access roads to connect them with main roads. Many apartments were constructed to replace the parking lot at the top right area near the coast. In addition, the coastal road was lengthened to northward in a curved shape, helping residents in the newly developed apartments to be easier to travel. Also, compared with 1950, 2007 experienced a considerable investment in coastal infrastructure with a new marina being constructed to boost marine tourism.
In terms of left-hand locations in Pentland, located in the top right-hand corner was an industrial area in 1950, being knocked, giving way to a park with lush greenery in 2007. Moreover, a swimming pool was erected next to the park and connected to it by a path while the construction of a multi story car park was conducted in the middle of the left-hand side, and adjacent to the swimming pool. In 2007, there was a shop row and a cinema built on the opposite side in the bottom left area, whereas the main street also was extended compared to 1950 to accommodate the increase of residential areas.
