The two maps illustrate the changes of Pentland took place in a coastal area over a 57-year period from 1950 to 2007
Overall, it is obvious that Pentland underwent a significant modernization, from a rural area dominated by grassland and industry into a coastal resort. Most noticeably, the expansion of resident areas and shopping facilities.
Looking at the northern and coastal areas, it had a road running along the coast in 1950, with an industrial area was located in the northwest, while a car park sat to the northeast. In 2007, the sea area had been developed into a marina for boats. The industrial zone had been completely cleared to make way for a park, a swimming pool, a multi-storey car park, and many shops in a line. The old car park in the northeast was replaced by apartment buildings.
Turning to the southern part and the transport network, in 1950, it was an open grassland with no building, divided to two sides by a road. In 2007, this area was largely developed. A new road was constructed, that improved access to the town. The grassland in the southwest was converted to build a cinema and the remaining of glassland in that side still empty. To the east of the main road, commercial and residential spaces expanded rapidly with a new row of shops and two rows of house to the south of the row of shops.
