The diagram illustrates the stages( bb còn step ) in the lifespan of salmon – a species of large fish .
Overall, the life cycle of salmon, lasting for 9 to 10 years, has gone through three main stages in its growth process, from salmon eggto adult salmon.
The process begins when mature salmon have laid their eggs in the upper river, where freshwater is slow-moving. These eggs were laid above small stones, surrounded by reeds. It seems to be the safest place for salmon to lay . After the eggs hatch between around 5 to 6 months , the immature salmon appear, which are also called “fry” and each one is just only 3-8 centimetres in size . Afterwards, the salmons’ journey continuously takes place when they move on to a lower river in which water flows much faster than their habitat before. This journey lasts approximately 4 years while fries consistently turn into smolts which are about 12-15 cm in size . After that, the salmons’ process of swimming to the open sea starts. Having tried to move to the new environment, they finally succeeded. The smolt has gradually grown to adult size after about 5 years and its size is much bigger than both fry and smolt with around 70-76 cm and then they return to the upper river during breeding season to lay eggs . At this phase, the lifespan all over again.
