The diagram illustrates how a salmon grows during its lifespan.
In general, we can see that the complete life cycle lasts around 10 years. it is also noticeable that there are 3 main stages (from eggs to mature adult salmon) in the development of the salmon happening in 3 difference environments
The life cycle of the salmon begins when the female adult lays eggs, among small stones and reeds in the upper river where water moves slowly. After approximately 5-6 months, each egg hatches and the “fry” appears in size 3-8 cm. The fry then migrates to the lower river which has faster-flowing water. The time for the fry lives in this location is more than the time at the upper river about 8 times. After that time, the fry grows in size to around 12-15 cm and develops into smolt. The smolt then travels to the open sea where it spends around 5 years living. During this time, the smolt reaches full maturity with a length of about 70-76cm and becomes adult salmon. After completing their growth and development in the ocean, the adult salmon return to the upper river to lay their eggs, thereby starting the life cycle all over again.
