There are significant advantages embedded with the use of coastal dredger with respect to primitive canal dredger method. The hull length and breadth is more wide in new process which is 85m and 14m, whereas the old one has 22m and 6.69m. The depth if compared, is less for canal about 1.87m and for coastal it is 35m. The area of operation is quite limited for previously used method and the modern way can be used for operation in north sea areas.
The new concept has the ship associated with the hydraulic arms, which is further connected with suction pump and rotating blades. They are used to collect mud and slurry present underneath the water bodies. Large tube are attached to shuttle boats, to carry mud. These shuttle boats are sent away from the city for dumping. This method tends to eliminate the need to drain canals for cleaning.
