The flowchart presents how aluminum cans are recycled. The whole process includes 6 stages: collection, cleaning, sorting, shredding and compression (the latter four are considered the second stage), heating, rolling, recycling and, finally, reusing.

The first step of recycling metal cans is to collect them from consumers at some points in public places. After that, the cans are cleaned, sorted out, cut in pieces and compressed by a huge machine. The next stage is supposed to make aluminum a liquid in the fire. The fourth point in this process is the metal being rolled out by a pressing mechanism to become 2.5-6-mm-thick sheet. The step called recycling is meant to involve some companies producing fizzy drinks so that the material can be used in manufacturing new cans. The final phase is using recycled cans for selling and buying products at supermarkets.

It is worth mentioning that according to the information in the flowchart 74 per cent of cans being sold in the UK are recycled.
