The bar chart provides a breakdown of university students by gender enrolled in six academic disciplines that were offered by their university in 2012.
Overall, a predominance of female students was evident in most fields, with the exception of Engineering and Science and Math. Furthermore, Social Sciences emerged as the most popular choice for both genders, while Agriculture accounted for the lowest figures across the board.
In detail, the social sciences is the clear leader with a total of 7000 students. Furthermore, it is the most popular choice among both students, though females (4000) significantly outnumbered males (nearly 300). Engineering showed the opposite pattern, following roughly 3000 students in total, although the gender gap was the most pronounced – females (approximately 1000) were outnumbered by males (around 2500), making it the sole field where male enrollment was considerably higher.
In Health and Humanities, totals were broadly comparable at around 2,250 and 2,400 respectively, with females exceeding males by approximately 1,000 students in each case. Science and Math recorded a total near 2,000, where the female advantage was somewhat narrower. Agriculture, at the opposite end of the spectrum, saw the most modest figures overall – roughly 300 males and 300 females – resulting in a combined total of just 600, the lowest across all disciplines.
