The line graph illustrates information about several reasons why overseas residents visit China between 2000 and 2016.Overall, most categories increased over the period. Holidays remained the dominant purpose of visiting China, while miscellaneous reasons showed relatively little change compared with the other categories.
At the beginning, business trips were the second most common reason for visiting China. However, approximately in the 2003, visiting friends or relatives became more popular than business reasons. Later, visiting friends or relative completely overtook the business trips, rising from roughly 7000 to almost 10000 visits between 2003 and 2008. Meanwhile, business purposes faced a decrease between 2006 and 2009 before recover, whereas visiting friends and relatives bypass the number of 10000 by the end of the period.
In 2001, holidays faced a small fall, decreasing from roughly 9,500 to approximately 7500 visits, while micellaneous purposes remained almost the same, having an insignificant changes. From 2001 till the end of the period, holidays was gradually increasing in number of visits. In 2006, miscellaneous reasons reached its peak at rougly 4500 visits, before starting to decrease again. Meanwhile, holidays reached its peak at 2006 accounting for approximately 14500 visits by the end of the period.
