Overall, it is obvious that retail and healthcare witnessed the upward trends throughout the surveyed period, while the opposite was true for manufacturing and agriculture. Notably, manufacturing was the highest figure from 1960 to 2000s, but it was overtaken by retail and healthcare during the last 20 years.
Focusing on the retail and the healthcare sectors, both categories was on the rise. The figure for retail rose gradually from more than 5 millions in 1960 to approximately 15 million jobs in 2020. That of healthcare almost exactly mirrored this pattern, albeit at a higher level: it started at just over 0 millions in 1960, before ending at the identical point of retail.
Regarding the remaining sectors, we can see that the trend was somewhat different. The the number of jobs in manufacturing sector increased from exactly 15 millions to 20 millions during the first 20 years, followed by the decreased from 20 millions to nearly 15 millions in 2020.
