In Malaysia, it experienced a smooth increase from 1970 to 1990, with the percentage of population living in cities changing from 30% to 45%, and after 1990, that of Malaysia started to increase rapidly, from nearly 40% in 1990 to 80% reaching the highest rank in 2040. That of Indonesia increased steadily from 13% in 1970 and will reach 60% in 2040 reaching the second highest.
For Philippines, the figure shows a peak in 1990 reaching 45%, and a slight decrease between 1990 and 2010, followed by an increase to 50% reaching the third highest rank in 2040. For Thailand, the increase of urban population is smooth until 2020 with 30%, and a rapid increace to 2040 reaching value of 40% with the lowest rank.
