Overall, Philippines had the highest percentage of its total population in the beginning year which was overtaken by Malaysia and continued its growth till the present day and is predicted to rise in the future .On contrast, Thailand is expected to have the least population in the future.
In 1970, nearly more than 30% of total population of Philippines resided in city which was closely followed by Malaysia. The least amount accounted for Indonesia in the same year. Nearly one-half of the people started living in cities of Philippines in 1990. Malaysia, following the year onwards, had a steep rise of citizens staying in urban continuing till 2020.
Both Thailand and Indonesia showed gradual increase till 2000. This was the time when Indonesia leapfrogged overtaking both Thailand and Philippines up to 2020.
Malaysia is expected to have nearly three-fourths of its people living in the cities by 2040. Indonesia is expected to be the second most populated, reaching just above one-half of its total population followed by Philippines ( nearly 50% ). The least population among the given four, expected to reside holds for Thailand ( about 40% ).
