Before 1950, the majority of the homes used natural gas while only about 15% of the homes relied on electricity. but from year 1950 to year 2010, the choice for electricity experienced a steady growth, until it came close to that of natural gas. The figure for natural gas stood at 60% until 1969, after that it dropped by almost 15% over the period of 1969 to 1989. There was no significant change in the figure for natural gas between the year 1989 and 2010, it levelled off at around 45%. In the period of 1990 to 2010, the figure of natural gas and electricity were almost equal in parcentage.
