The chart illustrates information on how men and women made investments in the UK from 1950 to 1980.
Overall, the amount of money invested by both men and women rose significantly over the time period. However, while men’s investments fluctuated, the numbers for women grew more consistently.
At the start of the time period, the figures for men and women started at around 150 and 100 billion dollars respectively. Men’s investments went up sharply in 1950s and reached 400 billion dollars by 1959. Subsequently, the figure dropped to less than 200 billion in the following years. After these variations, the numbers grew more steadily to reach approximately 500 billion dollars.
The investments of women were a bit below than those of men in 1950, around 100 billion dollars. Over the next thirty years, this number went up dramatically with only small changes. Ultimately, the amount of money invested by women reached almost 600 billion dollars which is higher than the investments made by men.
