The line graph compares participation in four sports – rugby, tennis, basketball, and badminton in a specific region between 1985 and 2005.
Overall, tennis gained popularity while rugby declined markedly. Rugby had the most participants in 1985, but tennis overtook it by 2005. Basketball and badminton changed little across the period.
Rugby began with about 250 players in 1985 and fell to around 220 in 1990 and 200 in 1995. Numbers then dropped further to roughly 150 in 2000 and plunged to about 50 by the end of the period. In contrast, tennis rose steadily from 150 in 1985, matched rugby at approximately 200 in 1995, and continued to climb to around 220 in 2005.
Basketball was comparatively stable: it started just below 100, dipped to about 85 in 1990, recovered to around 100 in 2000, and remained near that level in 2005. Badminton fluctuated within a narrow range, falling slightly to about 50 in 1990, staying close to that figure through 2000, and finishing at roughly 55 in 2005.
