The graph provided compares the number of enrollments in six computer science classes based on students’ genders at a US university in 2011.
Overall, male students were predominant in all courses, except for Linguistics. In addition, Natural Sciences was the most attractive subject among both sexes, while Mathematics recorded the largest gender gap.
As for male-dominated subjects, at 200 entries, the number of male undergraduates in Mathematics was equal to that of Psychology. However, the gender gap in Mathematics was more larger, males were more than four times as many as that of their female counterparts, while male students were more than females 25 students in Psychology class. Programming and Engineering recorded the similar numbers of enrollments, in both sexes, standing at 150 male entries as opposed to about 75 females.
In contrast, Linguistics experienced the opposite gender pattern and became the only female-dominated class with 125 females compared to about 80 males. Natural Science was the subject with the numbers for males and females being equal at 200 students for each gender.
