Overall, the usage of landlines and social media messaging fell during the time given. while digital communication methods experienced upwards trends. Social media messaging and video calling became the most popular method by 2023.
Although the percentage of adults using landline was the biggest at 84% in 2005, it dramatically dropped to 20% in 2023. That of using text messaging was 70% in 2005, rose to 90% in 2015, and then it fell noticeably to around 60% in 2023. The figure for mobile usage started at 60% in 2005 and gradually increased to over 80% in 2020, and it was the second most popular method in 2023.
