The data illustrated is collected between 1990 and 2012. Overall, it’s clear that exports to both Japan and US have decreased, while Australian business with China and India flourished during this time frame.
Initially, in 1990, Japan received most merchandise with approximately 27% followed by US then China then India, with 12.5%, 3%, 2% respectively. However, trade to Japan witnessed a significant reduction till 1995 were it was at 20%, despite that Japan did not lose it’s lead until China overlapped it in 2010. The amount of products to the US fluctuated for the first decade before it continued with a down trend, and falling to 12%.
while, Indian imports from Australia improved in general, reaching a peak at 13% in 2010, The Chinese imports demonstrate substantial upward spike, with more than 30-fold increase reaching 30% at 2012.
