Overall, Australia’s export to China experienced a considerably increase, while export to Japan and the United States declined dramatically. Meanwhile, export to India fluctuated slightly over the period.
In 1990, the percentage of Australian export to China was 2,5 percent. By 2000, it increased to 5 percent. Over the next ten years, this figure grew by more than 25 percent before reaching 30 percent in 2012. In 1990, the amount of export to India accounted for less than 2,5 percent and stayed unchanged before going up more than 5 percent in 2010. However, this figure mildly decreased 6 percent two years later.
Between 1990 and 1996, Australia’s export to the United States and Japan witnessed a noticeable decline, dropping from 12 to less than 10 for the United States and from 27 to 20 for Japan. These figures varied irregularly from 1995 to 2010. While, the proportions of export to the United State slightly increased and accounted for more than 5 percent in 2012, the percentage for Japan remained unchanged and exceeded 15 percent by the end of the period.
