The presented trend graph illustrates the proportion of women employees and individuals aged 50 and above who were in the workforce from 1971 to 2009 in the United Kingdom.
Overall, it is clear that women were significantly more engaged in the workforce compared to those over the age of 50, who showed much lower levels of employment.
From 1971 to 1990, the percentage of female workers in the labor force started at 37% in 1971 and rose substantially to about 45% by 2000. In contrast, the number of employees aged 50 and above remained relatively stable during this time, beginning at 21% in 1990 and growing gradually to nearly 25% by 2000.
In the following years, from 2000 onwards, the proportion of women workers continued to rise steadily, reaching 47% in 2019. Meanwhile, the percentage of individuals aged 50 and older saw a notable increase, jumping from around 25% to approximately 32% during the same period.
