The provided bar graph illustrates the ratio of newcomers to Australia from 5 different nations in 3 separate years.
Overall, increase in the figure for British, Indian, Vietnamese incomers can be observed over the years, while downward trend was experienced in the percentages of immigrants from New Zealand and Italy.
Since 1962, the figure for Indian newcomers to Australia, which was 2%, increased over the period and reached 15% after 4 full decades. A quite different pattern can be observed in the proportions of immigrants from UK and Vietnam. Both started at 10%, but figure rose dramatically and reached 15% and 25%, respectively. However, this was followed by downward trends for both figures as they each responsible for 13-14% incomers in 2002.
The constant drop was experienced in the percentages of settlers from New Zealand. Initially, 8% of Australia’s immigrants was from New Zealand, however 5% of newcomers were reported as New Zealanders in 2002.
Last but not last, in 1962 two-fifth of the incomers to Australia was Italians. However in the upcoming decades the ratio has fallen consistently and considerably, and eventually reached 15% after 40 years.
