Overall, in 1980, the population statistics of turtles in each type in India was the same figures, afterward they had different changes until 2012.

In a half over the period of 32 years, the population numbers of turtles changed dramatically for every kind. From 1980 to 1996, the figures for Olive Ridley Turtles increased significantly from 100 to about 140, by contrast, there was an enormous decline in the numbers of Leatherback Turtles, by around 35. The Green Turtles and all species population numbers fluctuate constantly during this period.

The period from 1996 to 2012 saw a gradual fluctuation in the number of Olive Ridley Turtles, Green Turtles and all species, was 130, 90 and 110 in 2012 respectively. On the contrary, the Leatherback Turtles population continued to fall during the rest of the period, and it hit a low of only 60 in 2012.
