The line graph below presents the changes and projections of the inhabitants in India and China from the year 2000 to 2050.
Overall, the population of India increased throughout the given time period. Despite China having a higher population initially, it was surpassed by India after 3 decades. After being overtaken, it is expected that the Chinese population will plummet gradually over the remaining time period.
In the year 2000 approximately 1.25 billion people resided in China. This will increase gradually to reach a peak of roughly 1.45 billion by 2030. After being overtaken by the Indian population in early 2030’s, the Chinese population is predicted to decline; a trend which continued year on year reaching just under 1.4 billion by 2050.
On the flip side, in the year 2000 the Indian population was at a billion and this figure will see a sharp escalation over the years. Despite overtaking the number of residents in China in the early 2030’s, it is anticipated that the Indian population will further widen it’s gap over China.
