The line graph shows the amount of air pollution in the UK, measured in millions of tonnes, from three main sources between 1990 and 2005.
Overall, it is clear that total air pollution decreased over the period. Industrial emissions also fell significantly, while transport pollution increased. Household pollution showed a gradual decline.
In 1990, total air pollution was the highest, at about 7.8 million tonnes. This figure decreased steadily to around 5 million tonnes by 2005. Similarly, pollution from industry dropped from approximately 5.8 million tonnes in 1990 to about 2 million tonnes at the end of the period.
In contrast, transport pollution followed a different trend. It started at around 1 million tonnes in 1990, fluctuated slightly in the early years, and then rose sharply to nearly 3 million tonnes in 2005. On the other hand, household pollution remained relatively low throughout the period, falling gradually from about 1 million tonnes to almost zero.
