The following report presents information on male and female gym membership between 1980 and 2010.
Overall, this graph shows that men had a higher rate of having a gym membership than women. Between the years 1990 and 2000, it can be seen that women’s gym membership took first place from men’s gym membership. After about 2005-2010, this same dynamic continued.
Specifically, men’s gym membership had its peak in 2005 with a rate of 5000. Starting from 1980, it had a rather linear increase, and during 1985, that increase let its place become stable. After about 1987, it started to decrease dramatically and once again continued a stable path until 2000. It had its dip at the end of the 2010s with a number less than 1000.
In contrast, women’s gym membership had rather uncertain and several dips and peaks compared to men’s. The highest rate belonging to women is near 3000 in 1995, and the lowest is about 1000 in 1980.
