The line graph compares the age groups (14-24, 25-34, 35-49 and over 50) when people visited the cinema in a certain country at least once in a month from 1978 to 2008. Overall, while the proportion of people who were between 35 and 49, and 50+ ages increased throughout the given period, the reverse was true for 14-24 and 25-34 age groups. Moreover, the figure for 14-24 age group stood out among the other age groups with consistently higher rates in each year, despite a negligible decline in 1988.
Focusing on visitors aged of 35-49 and over 50 first whose figures exhibited an increase, the percentage of ages of 35-49 visitors who had been in the cinema at least once in every month was 60%, noticeably more than those who aged over 50s, reaching 42% in the first year. In 1983, the percentage of the former age group declined to 50%, while the latter one showed a similar change, with its figure dropping to 30%. Afterward, the figures for both age groups exhibited a recovery, as the figure for the former reached its peak of 70% and that for latter was a half in 1998. After a period of stability was observed in both age groups until 2003, the proportion of people who aged between 35 and 49 visited the cinema on a monthly basis fell slightly to around 68%, the latter age group showed a reversal alteration, reaching to over 50% in the final year.
14-24 and 25-34 age groups, on the other hand, bucked the trend. In 1978, staggering 92% was seen in the percentage of people visiting the cinema within the 14-24 age bracket, considerably more than the latter, with roughly 80%. This disparity became even more pronounced in 1988, as the figure for 25-34 age group underwent a fall to tree-fifths and that for the former was about 87%. Meanwhile the shares of 14-24 aged people went to the cinema within a month marginally rose to 90%, latter age group witnessed a dramatic growth in 1998. The figure for both groups levelled off between 1998 and 2003, before a minimal decrease in both 14-24 and 25-34 age groups’ figure in 2008, to 87% and 77% respectively.
