The bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian boys and girls aged from 5 to 14 who take part in cultural and sport activities in 2013.
The initial impression from the chart is that girls were mostly interested in participating in cultural activities, whereas sports were more popular with boys. It is also clear that the biggest gap between girls and boys is in dance activity.
A great discrepancy is evident in the number of boys and girls like dancing with 25% girls saying that they were interested in this cultural activity as opposed to singing and drama groups, however, the gender gap was less pronounced with over 4% for males and 5% for females.
However, in playing musical instrument and sport , boys are more dominant. 18% of the male opted for playing musical instrument compared to roughly 10% for girls. The boys rates played sports was 70%, which was higher than the figure for girls (around 50%)
