The line graph given represents the changes in the rates of the unemployed people in two highly developed countries during the 6-year period. As is observed from the given graph, while American rate had a gradual decrease, the Japan’s percentage figures had the opposite changes.
In March 1993 American unemployment rates were at a peak of 6.5%. Afterwards the proportion declined gradually for about 3 years, included a two brief drops in spring of 1994 and spring 1995. The US unemployment rates then dropped sharply to the percentage of around 5.2 in 1997, consequently fluctuating for the next 2 years. During the period 1998 to 1999 American lowest rates met Japan’s highest.
In contrast, Japan had about 3% of work force in 1993. Then there was a gradual rise in the percentage until March 1996, however later a steep drop to about 3.9 rate happened. Between March 1996 and March 1998 there was an upward trend till it reached a peak of around 5.1% right after March 1998. Thereupon the rates levelled off and met the US rates. Although, both countries started at opposite numbers, it turned out on a quite similar rate.
