The line graph illustrates the unemployment rates in Japan and the USA from March 1993 to March 1999.
Overall, the unemployment percentage in Japan steadily rose, whereas the US figures recorded a slight drop over the same period.
Firstly, the percentage of unemployed individuals in the US constituted 7.0%, showing the highest proportion over that period. Later, this number insignificantly decreased to 6.5%, demonstrating some fluctuations from March 1994 and March 1996. Finally, the rate progressively fell to about 5.0% and flattened out at this level until March 1999.
Secondly, the figures for Japan began at the lowest percentage of 2.5% of the unemployed workforce, which went up moderately to almost 4.5% in March 1996. Despite a sharp drop in the middle of that year, the statistics slowly increased to 5.0% at the beginning of 1998 and, finally, stabilised until March 1999.
