The line graph compares the amount of fast food consumed by Australian teenagers between 1990 and 2020.
Overall, the consumption of fast food increased over the period. While French fries were the most popular item at the beginning, the consumption of both hamburgers and pizza surpassed it by 2020.
To begin with, in 1990, the consumption of fries per teenager stood at nearly 70 times per year. In contrast, hamburgers and pizza were consumed less frequently at the beginning, at around 10 and 5 times per year, respectively. Over the ensuing thirty years, the figure for hamburgers increased significantly, surpassing that of fries by the early 2000s, and ending up as the most consumed item at almost 90 times per year.
Similarly, the level of consumption of pizzas was similar to that of hamburgers, becoming the second most consumed fast food at nearly 80 times per year. Conversely, despite the preference for fries in the early years, by 2020, it was consumed less than 10 times per year.
