The line graph illustrates how radio and television audiences in the UK changed throughout a 24-hour period in 1992. It compares the daily patterns of people who listened to the radio with those who watched television. Overall, the two media show very different peak times.
Radio listening was very low during the night but started to rise after sunrise, reaching its highest point in the morning when many people were likely preparing for work or travelling. After this morning peak, the audience gradually declined through the afternoon and fell even further as the evening approached.
Television viewing remained minimal until around midday. From the afternoon onwards, the number of viewers increased steadily and then rose dramatically in the early evening. TV reached its peak later in the day, when most people were at home, before the audience dropped again towards the end of the night.
