The line graph compares trends in music buying over a period of 7 years (2011-2018).
Overall, both downloads and physical purchases of music have gradually declined. The latter has decreased since 2011, while the fall in music download trends began in 2014. However, the number of people who listen to music by streaming increased dramatically.
In 2011, numerous CD music sales were more than half, whereas streaming was not common, at only 5%. In the same year, only 35% of music download revenue was consumed by people.
From 2011 to 2018, streaming rose enormously and reached a peak at 40% in all sales. The opposite trend can be seen when looking at CDs purchased, which considerably declined, just a quarter, over the whole 7 years. The amount of music download sales in 2014 grew gradually to 42% but fell just to 30% in 2018.
