The line graph depicts the details of three different types of music sales such as streams, downloads and CDs purchased in the year from 2011 to 2018.
Overall, it can be seen that the usage of steams saw a significant growth over the time period, whereas music sales through downloads remained consistent. In comparison of other methods CDs purchased show a rapid drop over the 8 years.
In regards to the rising of music sales, streaming is most striking. In 2011, there were 5 percentage points, which grew consistently to around 20 percent in 2015, eventually reaching almost 40 percent in 2018. Meanwhile, download ratios accounted for approximately 34% in the first year of the period. After that, it peaked at around 41% in mid-2014 and then declined significantly to 30% in the final year. The percentage of purchasing CDs, which was the most popular method in 2011, represented approximately 55%, 11 times higher than streaming. However, the figure gradually went down and ended up at only 36% in 2018.
