The line graph illustrates the number of immigrants to three countries from 1991 to 2001. Overall, Australia showed a downward trend, while the USA and Canada trended upwards. It is also clear that Australia had the highest number of immigrants at the beginning of the period, but the USA overtook it thereafter.
Australia recorded the highest figure initially before experiencing a sharp decrease. Starting at 2,700, the number of immigrants to Australia declined sharply to 500 in 1995, which then stabilized till the end of the period.
The USA and Canada bucked the foregoing trend. The USA stood at around 1,100 immigrants, and its number increased gradually to 2,500 in 2000, when it reached the highest figure, before remaining stable. Meanwhile, there was a dramatic increase in the number of immigrants to Canada from 500 to 2,300 in 1995 before dropping sharply to 1,100 in 1996. This figure stabilized until 1999, and this was followed by a considerable growth to 1,600 by the end of the period.
