The line graph portrays and contrasts the number of Chinese and New Zealand visitors to Australia between 1990 and 2019.
Generally, the number of both Chinese and New Zealand visitors increased over the period. The number of tourists from New Zealand far outnumbered Chinese tourists until, in recent years, the number of Chinese tourists rose dramatically, slightly surpassing New Zealand.
Initially, the Chinese started with a low number of tourists, with only 7,300 people. The number slowly increased until 2011, when the number of Chinese travelers experienced a sharp upward trend and reached a peak in 2019 with 1,432,800 travelers. One reason for this could be related to leisure or taking a break from overwhelming work.
On the other hand, the number of New Zealand visitors doubled in the early years of the millennium, from 204,100 individuals to nearly 500,000. The numbers continued to climb steadily and surged from about 800,000 people to nearly 1,100,000 people between 2002 and 2004, respectively. The number of visitors gradually increased and reached its peak with 1,407,200 individuals, which almost equaled the number of Chinese tourists in the final years.
