The line graph illustrates the number of visitors, in thousands, to five different attractions in Parkvale over a twenty-year period from 1996 to 2016.
Overall, the National Gallery saw a dramatic rise in visitor numbers and became by far the most popular attraction, whereas the Aquarium and the State Zoo experienced long-term declines. The Museum remained the most stable attraction throughout the period.
In 1996, the Aquarium was the most visited site, with around 500,000 visitors, while the Indigenous Art Centre attracted almost none. The National Gallery and State Zoo started at similar, modest levels of roughly 310,000 each. Over the following years, however, the National Gallery’s popularity soared, climbing sharply to approximately 880,000 by 2004 before fluctuating slightly and reaching a peak of around 940,000 in 2016.
By contrast, the Aquarium underwent a steady and continuous decline, falling to just 80,000 visitors by the end of the period, while the State Zoo also dropped, ending at around 130,000. The Indigenous Art Centre rose considerably until 2004, then fluctuated between 220,000 and 360,000. Meanwhile, the Museum remained consistently steady at approximately 450,000-480,000 visitors throughout, never experiencing significant change.
