The layouts of Southwest Airport demonstrate the site now and after modernization.
Overall, the most significant facts to emerge from the maps are that after the redevelopment, the number of gates will more than double with the addition of two wings. As a result, the terminal’s capacity will expand heavily to handle more passengers next year.
Turning to the northern part of the airport, the number of gates will be increased from 8 to 18 with the addition of two new wings. Additionally, the existing walkway will be replaced by a sky train to carry passengers to these gates.
In the southern part, a new separate entrance will be added for departures. In this section, security and passport control will remain in the same place. However, the check-in area will be moved to a parallel position on the opposite side of the hall. Consequently, a new bag drop will be added where the café used to be, and new shops will be built right after security.
Finally, as for the eastern part, the passport control and customs area will be expanded. This expansion is planned to create more space in the arrivals hall, where a second entrance will be built. The area will accommodate several new facilities, including a new ATM, a café, and a car hire desk.
