This map shows the location of Australia’s beaches in 1950 and how they have changed today.
From an overall perspective, it is clear that leisure facilities and vehicular access to beaches are increasing. The beach itself has not changed.
In 1950, the area was relatively undeveloped, with a road leading to a car park overlooking the beach. Presently, the road extends to the lighthouse and a new surf club by the beach, with an expanded parking area. Additionally, a 25-meter pool near the lighthouse has been retained. However, the former children’s play area, dining space, and pavilion beneath the street have been replaced by additional parking spaces.
The 25-meter pool has been upgraded to a 50-meter pool adjacent to the restaurant and another surf club to the left of the beach. Moreover, a new 50-meter pool and a surf club, accompanied by a restaurant, have been established on the beachfront. The road now curves around the extended pool area, the beach, and the lighthouse.
