Generally, the city of Nelson recorded significant developments with some of the changes being hall of residence, new shopping centre, new train stations, clubs and bars just to mention a few.
In 2000, the University was located at the centre north of the city, close to it was a building and there were trees to the east of the university. A train station was at the western end of the city, below it was an old market and next to the market was the city centre. There was a car road separating the city from the port.
Nelson city today has recorded many significant changes. There is now a hall of residence to situated to the left of the University, while to the right is a new shopping centre that in the area where there were once trees. Below the University is a new train station with a train line by the right of it. The city centre remains unchanged in location, however it is now surrounded by several bikes rental schemes. The old market has been replaced with a new shop, meanwhile a new covered market is now located by the right of the city centre. The car road has been changed to a walkway for pedestrians use only. The port was not left out as it also recorded some development, with the presence of restaurant at the western end, as well as bars and clubs on the eastern end.
