The maps illustrate how the Shalton village has changed over a century. It has gone through dramatic changes over the period, with the school, post office, and roads being the only features remaining the same.
In 1910, there was a large house surrounded by numerous trees in the center of triangular area, with an another smaller house located below it, situated between a grocery store and a bakery. The village had two more houses on the lower side of High Street. A school and a butcher shop were located next to each other along School Road, while post office was positioned at the intersection of School Road and London Road.
Today, there are notable changes: the old large house and the trees around it have been replaced with new houses, and a new road has been added, to reach them. The smaller house below the large house has been converted into a more compact one, and the grocery shop on the left has been developed into a cafe. Meanwhile, the bakery on the right has been replaced with a large house. The High Street expanded by constructing two more smaller houses. The school has remained the same, but a supermarket has been built with a parking area along School Road. The butcher shop that was next to the school has been demolished and reconstructed as a bank. The post office still remained on the northeast along the original London Road.
Additionally, the London Road road was extended by adding four new small houses.
