The maps illustrate the changes that took place in the town of Harton between 2008 and 2016.
Overall, Harton underwent considerable redevelopment during this period, with several residential and commercial facilities being replaced or introduced. The most notable changes were the expansion of the industrial complex, the addition of new amenities, and the relocation of certain facilities, while the woodland, lake and river largely retained their original positions.
In 2008, the western part of the town was predominantly residential, with two residential areas, an arts centre, a school, a derelict warehouse and the old town. An industrial complex was situated in the south-eastern section, adjacent to the woodland. The northern part of the eastern side was occupied by woodland, which contained a lake. A river meandered through the southern and western parts of the town.
By 2016, the derelict warehouse and old town had been replaced by a car park and offices, respectively. The arts centre had also been converted into a multi-screen cinema, while a shopping centre was established in the south-western area. The school remained in its original location. In addition, a university was built to the east of the school, and a pond replaced the lake in the woodland area.
The most significant development occurred in the south-east, where the industrial complex was substantially enlarged, occupying a much greater area than before. Meanwhile, the residential area in the southern part of the town disappeared, although the two residential areas in the west remained largely unchanged. The river and the surrounding woodland also remained broadly intact.
