In 2010, visitors entering the museum would encounter lobby and ticket desk directly ahead. There was the ocean hall behind the lobby, and a mammal exhibit on the left-hand side. Additionally, the dinosaurs exhibit was located behind the mammal area. Outside the main building, there was a garden with a lot of trees.
After three years, the map reveals the change of the core exhibits in the exhibition hall. The entrance, ticket desk and looby remained unchanged. However, the ocean hall was expanded to connect seamlessly with the main hall. The dinosaurs exhibit was remained unchanged, while the previous mammal collection area was replaced with a new ice age exhibit, which accommodated a small section for insects. The garden was demolished to make way for an extension to the museum. This extension included the mammal exhibit, a new exhibit dedicated to human origins, a shop and a café.
