The outline demonstrates changes how Meadowside village and Fonton, which is a nearby town, have developed from 1962 to the present (in 1962, 1985 and now). Overall, both Fonton and Meadowside village increased in size over the years until they eventually merged together, at which point Meadowside became a suburb. Furthermore, there have been significant changes to IN infrastructure, housing and facilities over the period given.
In 1962, both inhabitant areas were separated by a strip of empty land with no transport links between them. Access to Meadowside was provided by a road running through the village from southwest to northeast, while Fonton was served by a railway running through the town from southeast to northwest. Just over two decades later, the two areas had expanded significantly and were also connected by a new road running from east to west.
At Meadowside, a leisure center and housing estate were built to the north of the original road, and a superstore was now located to the south of the housing estate and old road. Now the two areas have merged, and a lot of new infrastructure has been constructed on the empty land that used to lie between them. A business park was erected to the south of the connecting road, and a train station situated on the opposite side of the road, connecting the line to the original one. Sometime between 1985 and now, a hotel opened north of the train station.
