The diagram shows the development of Pentland over a 27-year period, from 1980 to 2007. Overall, there has undergone significant transformations including the introduction of various amenities, the removal of certain areas, and the relocation of facilities.
In 1980, the village was primarily composed of grassland, which was divided into four sections by roads. The sea was located on the northern side of the village, while a car park was situated in the east. In addition, an industrial area was positioned on the opposite side of the car park.
However, Pentland had evolved into a town with notable changes in 2007. It can be seen that the sea featured a yacht marina and new buildings, such as apartments, houses and cinema, have been established on the northeast, southeast and south side of the town, respectively. The roads had more shops along the streets. The former industrial area in the west has been replaced by a multi-storey car park, which was previously located in the east. Additionally, the northwest region included a swimming pool and a park.
