Overall,there was an increase in the rate of car theft and house burglary, with the most dramatic rise being seen in the figure for car theft, while street robbery remained relatively unchanged until the last year of the period.It is also clear that the percentage of car theft had by far the highest figure throughout the surveyed years.
The proportion of car theft in UK and Wales started at 0.4 percent in 1970, after which it experienced a significant increase to 1.4 percent in 1985.Similarly, but to a much lesser extent, the figure for house burglary rose frim 0.3% in 1970 to 0.5% in 1985.When it comes to street robbery, it started at 0.1% in the first year of the period, with a subsequent levelling off to 1985.
From 1985, the figure for car theft was at 1.4%, followed by a sharp decrease before ending the period at 0.8% in 2000. The corresponding trend can be seen in the figure for house burglary, which fluctuated in the range from 0.5-0.6 percent from 1985 to 1995, with a progressive decline to 0.4 percent.Besides that, the percentage of street robberry still remained at north of 0.1 in the final year of the surveyed period.
