It is clear that Japan spent a significant proportion of money on food whereas noticeable spending increases were seen in housing in Malaysia.
In 2010, people from both countries allocated almost the same amount of money to food, with each standing at 24% and 27% respectively. However, the proportion of household expenditure on health care in Malaysia was two times lower than the percentage of health care services in Japan. Similarly, two times as much money was alloted to transport in Japan as it was in Malaysia.
By contrast, Malaysians’ expenditure on housing accounted for 34% while Japanese citizens allotted to this sector only 21% of their household budget. Interestingly, other goods and services in both countries stood at well under 30%.
