In 1972, only 20% of adult fiction book was sold; however, these books gained huge popularity over the given years and constituted a major portion of 45% of total book sales in 2012. Moreover, children’s fiction waivered around 22% over a given 40-year period.
Moving on to the other categories, although other books had a significant share of nearly a quarter in 1972, but the sales of these books witnessed a fall in the following years and accounted for only 12% towards the end. Similarly, biography could be seen losing its share starting from 20% in 1972 and declining to 8% in 2012. Finally, travel accounted for 15% in 1972 and rose to 18% in 1992 before declining to 10% in 2012.
